20% of Americans use fitness trackers, and many love counting steps. Some say 10,000 steps a day is a minimum target, while others aim closer to 5,000 steps. Let’s step up and find out what the gold standard number is.
A group of scientists led by professor Ding Ding from the University of Sydney conducted a meta-analysis of studies published over ten years to find out the perfect amount of daily steps. Results showed that 7,000 steps a day is the perfect number, and going far beyond does not provide substantial health benefits.

Does it mean you can walk away from disease and death? No. But it is very likely that walking 5,000 to 7,000 steps a day will benefit your longevity and overall well-being.
